Welcome!
Why am I writing a blog/newsletter in 2025?
Hi! I’m Xenia. Welcome!
Every two weeks, I’ll be sharing one learning, reflection, or observation that is related to my professional life (as a first-time founder/operator), or sometimes personal life (as a first-time parent).
Why am I writing a blog/newsletter? A few reasons:
2025 marks my 6th year of entrepreneurship and I’ve had countless lessons and learnings during this time. I believe writing is the best way to memorialize, digest, and share learnings. Current learnings become anecdotes that your future self can refer back to when faced with new problems. I’ve been writing in a personal journal since I was 16 years old and I often refer back to old entries to help myself look at situations I’m currently facing from a new (but really, old) perspective. History always repeats itself in some form. I will be taking this same approach in documenting professional learnings. I know these entries will be interesting for me to review in even a year’s time, and hopefully with sharing them publicly, they might reach someone else who will find them helpful.
I’ve always loved writing and I miss it! Writers’ Craft was one of my favourite classes in high school and I always preferred doing assignments in university that were more case-based and involved long-form writing. After I started my first job after graduation in investment banking, my opportunities to write were mostly reduced to point-form “bizspeak” on PowerPoint presentations and emails that were boiled down to be as concise and serious-sounding as possible (and don’t even think about adding any exclamation marks!). These days at Threads, my opportunities to learn about and practice different types of short-form e-commerce writing are aplenty but there is still somewhat of a longer-form void I’m looking to fill.
Starting this blog is something I’ve been thinking about for a while now. I’ve been putting it off because frankly, I’m totally terrified of the idea of writing a public blog! Just that alone means I absolutely need to do it, and I’m going to learn a lot from it.
